DELAND ? Florida Hospital DeLand has earned Chest Pain Accreditation with Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) from the Society of Chest Pain Centers (SCPC), an international organization dedicated to eliminating heart disease as the number one cause of death worldwide.??

?We are very excited to receive this accolade,? said Marlene Thomas, Florida Hospital DeLand Cardiopulmonary Services Director.? ?Earning this was a true team effort and one that can only be achieved through teamwork and hard-wired leadership.?

As an Accredited Chest Pain Center, Florida Hospital DeLand?s protocol-driven and systematic approach to patient care allows physicians to reduce time to treatment during the critical early stages of a heart attack and to better monitor patients when it is not clear if they are having a coronary event. Such observation helps ensure that patients are neither sent home too early nor needlessly admitted.

By becoming an Accredited Chest Pain Center, Florida Hospital DeLand has demonstrated its expertise and commitment to quality patient care by meeting a wide set of stringent criteria and undergoing an onsite review by a team of SPCP?s accreditation review specialists. Key areas in which Florida Hospital DeLand must demonstrate expertise to earn this accreditation include:
???? ??Integrating the emergency department with the local emergency medical system
???? ??Assessing, diagnosing, and treating patients quickly
???? ??Effectively treating patients with low risk for acute coronary syndrome and no assignable cause for their symptoms
???? ??Ensuring the competence and training of Accredited Chest Pain Center personnel
???? ??Supporting community outreach programs that educate the public to promptly seek medical care if they display symptoms of a possible heart attack

?Achieving this accreditation was truly a community effort with EMS [Emergency Medical Services],? said Thomas. ?We worked hand-in-hand with both dispatch and other transferring facilities, such as Florida Hospital Fish Memorial in Orange City.?

?Cardiac care is of utmost importance to our community,? said Mark LaRose, Florida Hospital DeLand CEO.? ?That?s why we are working harder than ever to enhance the cardiac services we provide. This is a great accomplishment and one of many on the horizon.?
