Justin Bieber's alleged attack on a member of the paparazzi - who accuses him of roughing him up and leaving him in need of medical attention - is clearly BS.

That's beside the point, though. Whatever happened, Biebs' altercation is just the latest in a long string of tense run-ins between stars and the media who cover the celebrity gossip we crave. Here's a look back at seven of the most memorable:
1. Britney Spears: After a downward spiral that saw her shave her head, file for divorce and deliver her second child in the span of a year, Spears suffered a meltdown in February 2007 that saw her violently attack a paparazzo's car with an umbrella:
2. Russell Brand: Katy Perry's ex recently gave a whole new meaning to the term "dropped call" as he grabbed a photographer's iPhone and flung it through a nearby window. Brand later turned himself in after a warrant was issued for his arrest.
3. Kanye West: The rapper racked up three misdemeanor charges in 2008 after he was arrested for allegedly wrestling with a photographer at LAX, grabbing his camera and smashing it on the floor. The charges were eventually dropped.
4. Alec Baldwin. The actor, whose fiery temper has led to some nasty public incidents, was actually placed under citizen's arrest in 1995 after he allegedly punched a cameraman and broke his nose. A jury determined that he had acted in self-defense.
The comedian later joked, "Since Steve Jobs died I cannot bear to see anyone use an iPhone irreverently, what I did was a tribute to his memory."
5. Sean Penn: The two-time Oscar winner reportedly found a photographer in his hotel bedroom in China and dangled him from the ninth-floor balcony.
Penn, never one to hold back, was reportedly charged with attempted murder for that charade but fled the country before authorities could nab him.
6. Lindsay Lohan: Driving over a paparazzo's foot is just one entry on her laundry list of legal woes. Some people simply should not drive cars.
7. Bieber. Just by getting in the guy's grill, Justin earned our respect.

Madonna Covers Lady Gaga in Concert: A Diss or a Tribute?
Madonna recently went out of her way to once again not-so-subtly remind everyone that she is, in fact, in a sense, an older version of Lady Gaga.
The queen of pop was performing "Express Yourself" at a rehearsal in Tel Aviv, Israel when she suddenly trotted out a cover of "Born This Way."
Of course, the two tracks blended seamlessly, reviving debate over whether Lady Gaga ripped off Madonna with her 2011 smash hit single.
Although she stayed mum on Gaga's song for some time, Madge eventually referred to it as "reductive" and undoubtedly influenced by her earlier work.
There is no actual feud here, but the whole thing seems to have an air of condescension, as if Madonna is wielding the cover over her head.
Or, on the other hand, is Madonna merely winking at the controversy while celebrating the younger performer and the highest form of flattery?

Ex-Cameron aide arrested, charged with perjury
LONDON (AP) ? The former top media adviser to Prime Minister David Cameron was arrested and charged with perjury Wednesday in the trial of a flamboyant ex-Scottish lawmaker ? the latest case tied to allegations of wrongdoing by British tabloid newspapers.
Andy Coulson, 44, was detained by Scottish police at his home in London Wednesday morning over an accusation related to testimony he gave in a high-profile case at Glasgow's High Court in 2010, when politician Tommy Sheridan was himself convicted of offering a false account in a legal hearing.
He arrived in Glasgow Wednesday afternoon for questioning there, but was not arrested or charged until late Wednesday evening. In Scotland, which uses a different legal system from the rest of Britain, a suspect can be detained by police to answer questions before being formally arrested or charged.
Strathclyde Police said late Wednesday that a report would now be submitted to Scottish prosecutors, which will determine if Coulson will face court. In Scotland, police can charge a suspect but the decision on whether to prosecute rests with the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service.
Sheridan had won a lawsuit against the now-defunct News of The World tabloid over its claim that he was embroiled in a sex-and-drugs scandal, but was later jailed for three years after a jury at the 2010 trial ruled that he had committed perjury when he sued the newspaper.
Coulson was editor of the tabloid when stories about Sheridan were published, and working as Cameron's communications director when he gave evidence to the 2010 trial.
The ex-aide, who left his post at the News of The World in 2007 after a reporter and a private investigator were jailed over phone hacking offenses, told the court that he didn't "accept there was a culture of phone hacking" at the tabloid.
He insisted that he had ordered his reporters to work within the law and said that police officers were not paid for information.
Those assurances have since been called into question by revelations of widespread illegal behavior at the paper and allegations ? denied by Coulson ? that he approved and encouraged the shady practices.
Cameron has insisted he had been right to offer Coulson a "second chance," by making him his media chief ? but the ex-aide's resignation early last year, his arrest by London police investigating phone hacking, and Wednesday's detention by Scottish police have raised questions about the British leader's judgment.
The prime minister's ties to both Coulson and their mutual friend Rebekah Brooks, an ex-chief executive of Rupert Murdoch's News International, have brought the tabloid phone hacking scandal to Cameron's doorstep.
Sheridan, who was freed from jail after serving a year of his sentence ? usual practice for crimes of that type in Scotland ? said he now hopes to have his conviction quashed.
"We were led to believe by Mr. Coulson and his acolytes at News International during my trial and the initial phone-hacking investigations that the problem was a rogue reporter," Sheridan told reporters outside his home. "Well, I think we all know now that there is no bad apple in the barrel. What there is is a rotten orchard full of bad apples."
Sheridan's lawyer, Gordon Dangerfield, said he would now appeal the ex-lawmaker's perjury conviction.
In 2006, Sheridan won a defamation suit against the tabloid after it claimed he had visited a swingers' club, had taken part in orgies and used cocaine. However, a year after his courtroom victory against the newspaper, police arrested and charged Sheridan with perjury in connection with the hearing.
The subsequent trial riveted Scotland, with its lurid allegations about sex clubs and tabloid skullduggery.
Coulson arrived in Scotland on Wednesday afternoon for questioning there, but was not formally arrested or charged until Wednesday night.
The police department said the case was tied to Operation Rubicon, a Scottish police investigation into allegations of phone hacking, breaches of data protection and perjury. Those inquiries are running separately to major investigations by London police into newspaper malpractice.
Coulson is currently on police bail in connection with the London inquiry, meaning he must return to answer more questions from detectives there in the near future. He has also testified to the country's media ethics inquiry.

Wash. State loses one recruit; College hoops recruiting notes
Two incoming recruits from Westwind Prep (AZ), center Richard Peters?and wing DeMarquise Johnson?both were expected to be part of the groundwork that head coach Ken Bone was setting at Washington State going forward. Now, Peters has apparently failed to qualify, and will be headed to a junior college, while Cougars? fans are still holding out hope that Johnson will be able to be on the squad next year.
Washington State has compensated for the loss of Peters by adding Iowa State transfer Jordan Railey and junior college post James Hunter, but the former Oklahoma commit Peters was considered to be a big man with potential going forward. The same can be said for Johnson, who might be the best pure talent on Washington State?s roster, if he qualifies. It seems as if Washington State fans will be holding their breath for awhile, as the NCAA has been known to drag such issues out for months.
In other news from the recruiting trail:
- Fordham is still trying to find their role in a re-formulated Atlantic-10, and they recently put out a press release detailing the four players who signed with their program going forward. 6?-8? power forward Travion Leonard, 6?-1? point guard Jermaine Myers, 6?-3? shooting guard Mandell Thomas and 6?-9? power forward Ryan Rhoomes are the newcomers announced by the Rams program. Rhoomes, was originally set for TCU this season, but was not able to play following a prep school season at NIA Prep (NJ). If he can shake off the rust, he?s the headliner of this group.
- The loss of guard Willie Moore (Oregon) and forward Donovon Jack (Penn State) from the initial recruiting class at Duquesne will have to be overcome, but new coach Jim Ferry has inked four new players during his short time at the helm. Junior college guard Marvin Binney and high school guards Jeremiah Jones and Derrick Colter cast their lot with the program, while former Baylor commit (from several years ago) small forward Quevyn Winters is also set for the program. There wasn?t much time to wrangle this group together, but Ferry did what he could.
- Both Boise State and Tulsa each have some buzz with recent players they snagged. 6?-9 forward?Vukasin Vujovic will join the Broncos from Serbia, where he?averaged?16 points and 5 rebounds on a junior team of Partizan, a Euroleague member. He?s a power forward with national team experience. Meanwhile, Rashad Ray of Walker (LA) has signed with Tulsa. He?s a 5?-11? point guard that averaged 18 points and 7 assists according to a press release. According to Tulsa, Ray picked them over UTEP, Tulane and Louisiana Tech.

Beryl prompts tropical storm warning for NE Florida
The National Hurricane Center in Miami has issued a tropical storm warning for residents living in Volusia County.
Subtropical Storm Beryl, the second named storm of the 2012 Atlantic hurricane season, is moving west-southwest toward the southeastern coast of the United States at about 6 mph, a speed the Hurricane Center expects to increase through Sunday.
At 11 p.m. Saturday, Beryl's center was located near 30.8 degrees north latitude and 77.2 degrees west longitude, or about 300 miles east-northeast of Jacksonville. The storm is expected to turn west Sunday night, with its center nearing the warning area later that evening. Its current sustained winds are about 50 mph.
Residents of northeastern Florida should expect Beryl to produce mostly wind gusts and up to 2 to 4 inches of rainfall.
Tropical storm force winds are expected to begin across Volusia County and north of Orlando by Sunday afternoon.
The Hurricane Center will release its next advisory at midnight Sunday.
A high risk of rip currents is expected along the northeast Florida coast from Nassau through Flagler counties. A moderate risk of rip currents is also expected along the east central Florida coast from Volusia through Martin counties.
Conditions are expected to be present through Monday. Beach goers should remember to remain alert when red flags are flying.
?In addition to the potential for dangerous rip currents, high waves up to 4 to 6 feet could cause moderate beach erosion and minor coastal flooding,? said State Meteorologist Amy Godsey. ?Beachgoers should remember to review the rip current outlook for their area, check the warning flag signs before entering the water and swim within sight of a lifeguard.??
Tropical storm warnings are in effect from the Volusia and Brevard County line through South Carolina. The National Weather Service in Jacksonville has issued a tropical storm watch for Baker, Bradford, Clay, Union, and Putnam Counties.
Beryl is projected to move west-southwest into Northeast Florida or southern Georgia Sunday night through Monday night, briefly stalling, then turning northeast towards South Carolina ahead of an approaching cold front. As it moves inland, it is expected to decrease in intensity into a tropical or subtropical depression.

Battle for Cove Energy hots up as PTT trumps Shell
LONDON (Reuters) - The takeover battle for Cove Energy
Shares in Mozambique-focused Cove jumped as much as 12 percent to 250.5 pence on Wednesday, above PTT's offer of 240 pence a share and signaling investors expect Shell to come back with a higher bid.
Shell could counterbid as much as 300 pence a share, and still stay within the range of prices others have paid for international oil and gas assets in recent years, said Stuart Joyner, oil analyst at Investec.
"Clearly the game is not yet over," analysts at Singer Capital Markets said in a research note.
East Africa is set to become one of the world's largest gas exporters, executives operating in the region believe, after a string of major discoveries across Mozambique and Tanzania. That has fuelled speculation of a wave of takeover deals involving companies active there.
Cove has an 8.5 percent stake in massive gas finds offshore northern Mozambique. Project leader Anadarko Petroleum plans to build large plants to freeze the gas to liquefied natural gas (LNG) for export in ships.
PTT sees Cove as an opportunity to secure energy resources to help power Thailand's economy. Shell hopes Cove will be a springboard to a major presence in east Africa.
Cove management said hours before of a deadline for investors to accept Shell's bid that it had switched to back an improved 1.22-billion-pound ($1.9 billion) offer from PTT.
It had previously supported Shell's offer, which followed a PTT bid that trumped Shell's opening salvo in February.
An official within Mozambique's minerals ministry told Reuters the government would prefer a company with LNG expertise, but did not say whether it would block PTT's bid on the basis it had not previously built an LNG export plant.
Investors say this is now the biggest risk facing the deal.
"We're all exposed to the Mozambique government risk now," said one hedge fund manager holding Cove stock.
Nonetheless, many investors doubt Mozambique will block PTT, and force them to accept the lower Shell bid.
"We will keep our position in Cove for now on the anticipation that Shell might come back with an even higher offer," said Anne-Sophie D'Andlau, co-founder of Paris-based hedge fund firm CIAM.
Anglo-Dutch group Shell, Europe's biggest oil company by market capitalization, declined to comment.
PTT shares tumbled following news of its higher bid, while Shell's were down in line with the UK market.
CONSOLIDATION SEEN
The latest wave of exploration in Kenya, Tanzania and Mozambique in recent years was led by smaller explorers including London-listed Ophir Energy, Aminex and Wentworth Resources and Toronto-listed Africa Oil.
Industry executives say they expect a burst of consolidation as larger companies such as Norway's Statoil, Britain's BG Group and U.S.-based ExxonMobil, which have entered the region more recently, snap up smaller players.
Shell has already said it would like to add other acquisitions to Cove's Mozambique interest. If it is successful in buying Cove, it is expected to bid for a share of a neighboring block that Italy's Eni said it planned to sell.
These ambitious plans means Shell is not expected to walk away from Cove without a fight.
"Whilst it is not in Shell's corporate culture to get into lengthy bidding wars, given the strategic nature of the asset, they may come back with a yet higher bid," said Westhouse Security analysts.
Yet analysts said Shell would likely try and lobby the Mozambique government to back its bid rather than enter a counter-bid immediately.
Whoever buys Cove will have to pay a capital gains tax to Mozambique, which Shell has estimated at around $200 million, pushing the value of PTT's bid above $2 billion.
Cove will also owe Shell a 11.1 million pound break fee under the terms of the deal agreed in April.
Three sources close to the process said around 70 percent of Cove shares were in the hands of risk arbitrage hedge funds, whose strategy is to squeeze every last penny out of a takeover situation.

EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey — The Electric Daisy Carnival rolled up its tents Sunday night after nearly 100,000 people danced through MetLife Stadium over the weekend for the inaugural EDC New York.
Afrojack was the ringleader of Sunday's carnival, cranking out two shows and closing the weekend in front of an immense crowd that stretched from the main stage in the parking lot all the way to the stadium gates. Afrojack thanked the crowd as well as his fellow performers as the final fireworks lingered in the skyline, professing his love for New York and promising a return to EDC New York next year.
Five hours before he closed the show, Afro kicked off his first set, dropping the volume for the crowd to sing along with his mega-jam with Eva Simons, "Take Over Control," drawing in the crowd at every word before the drop, then kicking off a jumping flash-mob. He followed-up with an Avicii interlude featuring his mash-up of "Le7els" and "Silhouettes" with "Fade Into Darkness," before he busted loose a brand-new Afro-track he's been teasing around the world since the Ultra Music Festival, known for the time being as "Rock the House."
Afro's "Jacked" tourmates took over control of the Circuit Grounds tent. R3hab literally rolled up his sleeves to perform a monster set and worked the crowd into hysteria with some of his newest bangers. R3hab was definitely feeling the moment, leaping up and down at the drop of his track "Chainsaw Showers." Another huge reaction came for his performance of his as-yet unreleased future jam with Eva Simons called "I Don't Like You."
Bassnectar also drew a huge crowd for a bass-laced, reggae-infused, hip-hopping dub-step rock opera. The man can bang hard tracks for hours and still keep the crowd moving in for more. He leveled the crowd with his live tweaks of fan favorites like his remix of Ellie Goulding's "Lights" and an extra-heavy dosage of his collaboration with Lupe Fiasco, "Vava Voom."
Off in the Cosmic Garden, a completely different musical journey was unraveling with Loco Dice, a master of the minimal, and his own unique brand of tribal tech-house that creeps into your senses. It's subtle and sexy music, and it ignited some random dance-offs in the crowd — definitely a musical experience fit for Electric Daisy.
Perfect weekend weather complemented the successful kick-off of EDC New York, which finally crossed a hurdle by simply happening. After years of speculation on whether EDC could or would take place in New York, the only questions left are what took so long and when is the carnival coming back to town?
"It was an incredible crowd. We're especially thankful to have such extraordinary fans who dress up and participate in what we create," Pasquale Rotella, founder of Insomniac, said. "We're already looking at ways to enhance next year's EDC New York experience." The EDC beat is moving on to Las Vegas Motor Speedway for June 8-10, when Insomniac, EDC's long-running promoter, will run its 16th EDC and is forecasting attendance that exceeds last year's amazing 230,000 people.

CHICAGO (AP) ? Thousands of protesters marched through downtown Chicago on Sunday in one of the city's largest demonstrations in years, airing grievances about war, climate change and a wide range of other complaints as world leaders assembled for a NATO summit.
The protest, which stirred worries about violence in the streets, was largely peaceful until the end, when a small group of demonstrators clashed with a line of police who tried to keep them from the lakeside convention center where President Barack Obama is hosting the gathering.
The protesters tried to move east toward McCormick Place and threw objects at police. Some officers responded by swinging their batons. After more than an hour, the two sides were still locked in a standoff, with police blocking the protesters' path and the crowd refusing to leave. Some protesters appeared to have blood streaming down their faces. Authorities were seen carrying a few people away from the scene.
Esther Westlake, a recent graduate of Northeastern Illinois University, marveled at the size of the crowd. She said she had been involved in antiwar marches before the war in Iraq in Chicago, but had never seen one this big.
"It's crazy. There's so many people here," she said. "Having NATO in town is kind of exciting."
But some participants wondered whether the protest agenda was too unfocused to get the diplomats' attention.
"It seems like there's so many messages and people aren't really sure what they want to get accomplished," Westlake said. "People just need to figure out what their argument is going to be."
She worried that some protesters participated simply "to do stupid things" and cause trouble.
Some participants called for the dissolution of NATO, the 63-year-old military alliance that is holding its 25th formal meeting in Chicago. It is the first time the summit has been held in a U.S. city other than Washington.
Diplomats at the meeting planned to discuss the war in Afghanistan, European missile defense and other international security matters.
"Basically NATO is used to keep the poor poor and the rich rich," said John Schraufnagel, who traveled from Minneapolis to Chicago for the march. Since the end of the Cold War, he said, the alliance has become "the enforcement arm of the ruling 1 percent, of the capitalist 1 percent."
Peace activists joined with war veterans and people more focused on the economy. Marchers assembled at Grant Park with signs denouncing NATO, including ones that read: "War(equals)Debt" and "NATO, Go Home."
But the crowd was mostly filled with protesters whose primary concerns had little to do with the discussions at the summit.
The march lacked the size and single message that shaped the last major protest moment in Chicago, when nearly half a million people filled the city's downtown in 2006 to protest making it a felony to be an illegal immigrant.
At one point, dozens of protesters in black clothing surged toward a much smaller group of police, throwing objects at them.
The badly outnumbered officers fought back with truncheons, and people on both sides threw punches. As police reinforcements moved in, the pack of violent protesters fled.
Authorities had planned for months to provide heightened security along the march route to protect people and property.
But unseasonably warm temperatures raised concerns about the safety of the marchers themselves. The city provided water, rest stations and cooling buses along the 2?-mile protest route.
The heat offered an unexpected benefit for police: making it easier to spot potential troublemakers.
Before the summit, officers were told to keep an eye out for people wearing bulky clothing that could hide weapons or big pieces of cardboard that protesters could use to shield themselves against rubber bullets. But anyone wearing overcoats or sweatshirts was conspicuous on a 90-degree day, when many people wore T-shirts and shorts.
Organizers of Sunday's rally had initially predicted tens of thousands of protesters this weekend. But that was when the G-8 summit of leading industrial nations was also scheduled to be in Chicago. Earlier this year, President Barack Obama moved the Group of 8 economic meeting to Camp David, the secluded retreat in rural Maryland.
Chicago kept the NATO summit, which is not addressing the economy specifically. That left activists with the challenge of persuading groups as diverse as teachers, nurses and union laborers to show up for the Chicago protests even though the summit's main focus doesn't align with their most heart-felt issues.
Sunday's protest followed several smaller demonstrations over the previous two days, including a march Saturday to the home of Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Obama's former chief of staff.
Later that evening, hundreds of demonstrators zigzagged through downtown, some decrying terrorism-related charges leveled against three young men earlier in the day. Eighteen people were arrested.
Police Supt. Garry McCarthy said officers would be ready with quick but targeted arrests of any demonstrators who turn violent.
"If anything else happens, the plan is to go in and get the people who create the violent acts, take them out of the crowd and arrest them," warned McCarthy. "We're not going to charge the crowd wholesale ? that's the bottom line."
Three activists who traveled to Chicago for the summit were accused Saturday of manufacturing Molotov cocktails in a plot to attack Obama's campaign headquarters, Emanuel's home and other targets.
Defense lawyers argued that the police had trumped up the charges to frighten away peaceful protesters. They told a judge it was undercover officers who brought the firebombs to an apartment in Chicago's South Side where the men were arrested.
On Sunday, police said two other men were in custody after being accused of planning to make Molotov cocktails to be used during the NATO summit.
Sebastian Senakiewicz, 24, was charged with one felony count of terrorism/making a false threat. Mark Neiweem, 28, was charged with attempted possession of explosives. Both men were scheduled to appear in court later Sunday.
It was not immediately clear if those arrests were related to the other three.
Kris Hermes of the National Lawyers Guild said the charges seem to be part of a wider effort to scare people and diminish the size of the demonstrations.
